Day 2: ARUSHA - TARANGIRE
Departure in the morning for Tarangire National Park, which covers an area of 1360 km² with scenic baobab trees, acacia woodland, bush plains, swamps and rivers. Enjoy a full-day game view with a packed lunch box so that you won’t miss any action! This park is known for its large herds of elephants, along with zebras, giraffes, tree climbing pythons and more.
The dry season (June to October), when wildlife gather around the Tarangire River, offers the most rewarding game viewing.
Dinner and overnight stay at Octagon Lodge.
Day 3: TARANGIRE - NGORONGORO
After an early breakfast, enjoy another opportunity to admire wildlife with a half-day game drive. Perhaps today, you will encounter some gazelles, stocking-thighed ostriches, or dik-diks as well! Don’t forget to admire the breathtaking views of the Maasai Steppe and the mountains in the south. Picnic lunch box will be provided.
We are off next towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a World Heritage Site, in preparation for tomorrow’s action-packed day.
Dinner and overnight stay at Octagon Lodge.
Day 4: NGORONGORO
After breakfast, our first stop is Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive caldera and among the seven natural wonders of Africa. Decend 600m onto the crater floor, where you will encounter numerous wildlife such as lions, leopards, hippos, cheetahs, impalas, and wildebeests. It is also one of the most likely areas in Tanzania to see the endangered black rhino.
At the centre of the crater is Lake Magadi, a soda lake which is home to flocks of flamingos and other migrant bird species. Soak up the beautiful scenery while enjoying your packed lunch.
Dinner and overnight stay at Octagon Lodge.
Day 5: NGORONGORO - LAKE EYASI
Your hot and delicious breakfast is followed by game en route to Lake Eyasi, a saltwater lake bordered with palm trees and home to diverse bird populations like African spoonbills, great white pelicans, and yellow-billed storks. On the way, you will also come across fields of wheat as well as Mang’ola onions, a locally-bred red bulb variety famous in East Africa. Enjoy a packed picnic lunch immersed in the splendor of Tanzanian nature.
In the late afternoon, a light trek to enter bushman land for a cultural interaction with the Hadzabe tribe. Around 300-400 Hadza live as hunter-gatherers, much as they have for thousands of years. Marvel at their traditional ironsmith work, and learn from their careful co-existence with nature.
Dinner and overnight stay at Kisima Ngeda Tented Lodge.
Day 6: LAKE EYASI – ARUSHA
Early morning breakfast, then another fascinating cultural interaction with the Hadzabe. Try your hand at using traditional bow and arrows, all made from materials sourced within their environment. Join them as they hunt for their daily sustenance. The Hadza men usually forage individually, feeding themselves during the course of the day, and also bring home honey, fruit, or wild game when available. Women forage in larger parties, and usually bring home berries, baobab fruit, and tubers.
Head back to Arusha for a restaurant meal and in time to catch your departing flight.
